Cantaliver Court

The Cantilever Court development was a major scheme in south London. As such, Liz Lake Associates was commissioned to create an integrated masterplan unifying the various elements and to also implement public art proposals as part of the Section 106 agreement. Working with the client, the scheme was developed into an impressive and stylish refurbishment of one of London’s iconic 1960s concrete structures to include a collection of retail, office and residential spaces including a working cantilevered theatre.
Working closely with the architect and client, a masterplan was evolved which responded to the client wish-list and the local heritage of the site, whilst incorporating contemporary elements such as bespoke seating. As part of the landscape design Liz Lake Associates was commissioned to engage with local artists to develop an art installation which was a requirement as of the overall planning permission. The installation by award-winning artist Nick Turvey, coined as ‘Massive Orange Object’, has become a local icon befitting this impressive development. An enclosed central courtyard creates a pedestrian friendly heart to the scheme, planted with a selection of evergreen plants and ornamental flowering trees which provide a colourful and attractive space highly valued by residents and visitors.
The scheme is now completed and incorporates a pedestrian courtyard, planted with an interesting variety of architectural plants. Raised planters and architectural lighting further enhance this exciting urban regeneration scheme. The development includes 173 residential apartments which are now all occupied creating a thriving community on Wandsworth Road on the edge of the Nine Elms regeneration area.
