Tollgate Retail Park

Liz Lake Associates were appointed to design the Landscape Masterplan for the new Tollgate development in Colchester. The proposal includes a mix of units sizes, allocated for retails and recreational activities, and car parking facilities set within a landscape framework of tree lined streets and green pedestrian paths. For the complete planning application, a Landscape and Visual Landscape Assessment was prepared and submitted.

The Tollgate development proposed a new urban fabric, a leisure and retail-led exterior environment traversed with new pedestrian routes and spaces. This vibrant and distinctive retail experience would provide a new public realm of unique character and function. The aim of the landscape design was to create a distinctive scheme and a new element of urban fabric that integrates, in a contemporary way, with the new development and within the existing context, complementing and enhancing the built forms of the master plan proposals. A public realm that would be of significant value to Colchester, encourage a sense of place and become a retail destination in its own right. Representations and LVIA report were submitted to the Local Planning Authority in 2015. Liz Lake Associates are currently involved in developing the scheme in greater detail.
