Cheltenham Retirement
Retirement living specialist Richmond Care Villages appointed Liz Lake Associates to act as Clerk of Works for this exciting scheme. LLA were also approached by Stepnell (main contractor) to carry out a series of redesigns and improvements to the previous scheme and liaise with the Local Authority to successfully secure discharge of the relevant Planning conditions.
Designed by PRC, the development will create a 60-bed care home and 55 assisted living apartments set within a secluded mature woodland setting to the rear of the Cheltenham Film and Photographic Studios in Hatherley Lane, on the western fringes of the town centre. The new development has been designed to complement and enhance its woodland setting which includes a considerable number of protected mature trees. The building incorporates large areas of glazing which will reflect the surroundings and give wide-views of the natural setting.
Woodland walkways and bespoke seating will enable residents to fully enjoy the natural landscape. There are also extensive garden areas within the development with rooftop garden terraces on the upper floors, including a sensory garden and raised beds and wheelchair accessible planters where residents will be able to grow their own plants. The majority of the historic woodland will be maintained and conserved by the proposals with large-scale replanting planned where trees have to be removed due to disease or to accommodate the proposed built form.
