Hadleigh Road
This project focused on a large Victorian house overlooking the Thames Estuary enclosed on a tight site which had to accommodate parked vehicles while incorporating a young family’s requirement for outdoor space. The existing garden had complex level issues and was within a Conservation Area, entailing lengthy negotiations with the local authority. Liz Lake Associates arranged to remove overgrown trees and vegetation which were unhealthy and visually obstructive. Once implemented the scheme opened up the site to provide scenic views along the estuary and featured curved retaining timber walls which related to the coastal location and created two level areas of lawn and robust, salt-tolerant planting beds. Pleached flowering cherry trees and formal evergreen hedging were implemented to screen views of surrounding houses, and help sit the house within this unique setting.
