Oakley, Cheltenham

GCHQ

This site was used for over 60 years by the intelligence agency (since 1952). GCHQ vacated the site in December 2011 and since then the remaining buildings decommissioned. Liz Lake Associates were commissioned by Persimmon to undertake a LVIA to accompany the application of this brownfield site which consists of existing buildings as well as car parks and landscaped areas.

The intention is to utilise the existing sloping nature of the site to retain and enhance existing views into and from within the site which were addressed in the preliminary visual assessment. These important views towards Cheltenham and the surrounding Hills including Cleeve Common were incorporated within the landscape masterplan to ensure they were retained within the detailed landscape proposals, when implemented the proposals will respond to its surrounding context whilst having its own sense of place and character.
