Charlestown

Liz Lake Associates were commissioned by Wainhomes (South West) Holdings Ltd to provide evidence for a Written Representations appeal against the refusal of planning permission for residential development on land at two sites in the Harbour village of Charlestown in Cornwall. Charlestown is part of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site which includes select mining landscapes across Cornwall and West Devon in the south west of the United Kingdom.

Woking for the appellant, Liz Lake Associates carried out a site visit to Charlestown to assess the landscape and visual effects associated with the proposed development. Our evidence focused on impacts on the World Heritage Site and Charlestown Conservation Area, as well as impacts to the visual amenity of local residents and users of locally and nationally important Public Rights of Way. Liz Lake Associates produced an Appeal Statement identifying the Landscape and Visual Issues associated with the two sites, including the production of a series of verified view photomontages to illustrate the proposals within the Charlestown landscape.
