Bristol City Council has given the green light for the development of this vacant listed hospital building located within the Conservation Area of Clifton. The site which hosts several mature trees and is adjacent to the Registered Park and Garden of Brandon Hill provided a sensitive setting to the redevelopment of the building into high quality student accommodation.
LLA produced the Townscape and Visual Impact Assessment and produced the detailed landscape design. The designs were scrutinised by the Bristol Urban Design Forum who requested a formal Renaissance parterre garden approach to the landscape treatment to suit the surrounding heritage gardens in the area. This theme has been executed to create structured areas of public open space, a series of formal gardens and a wild woodland copse. The designs tie together the old hospital building and new terraces on Upper Byron Place as well as the green walled pavilion building in the north of the site.
