East Cambridgeshire Green Belt Review

Client: East Cambridgeshire District Council
Location: East Cambridgeshire
Planning consultant: QuBE Planning (now Beacon Planning)

Brief
Liz Lake Associates, in association with QuBE Planning, was appointed by East Cambridgeshire District Council to undertake a review of the parts of the Cambridge Green Belt that fall within its district. The study area's proximity to the City of Cambridge, combined with good access to the national road and rail network, has encouraged the rapid growth of both housing and employment in the district. The review was undertaken in relation to Green Belt policy and the emerging pressures for growth in the Cambridge sub-region.

Approach
Through the process of desk-top study, field survey, data analysis and consultation we were able to prepare a detailed report for East Cambridgeshire District Council recommending areas to be included or excluded from the Cambridge Green Belt. Our recommendations were based on a comprehensive policy review, historic factors and landscape character.

Outcome
The report was taken to committee by the District Council and was used to inform proposals to change the Green Belt boundaries in the Core Strategy which was taken to the examination in public.

Approach

We are Landscape Architects and our approach is an holistic one. From the outset we come with a fresh vision, take a broad view to assess the context and challenges, look for local inspiration, propose creative solutions and devise a strategic approach. At all times we are mindful of the financial, and sometimes also the emotional, investment of the client.
