Client: Private
Location: Hungerford Park, Berkshire

Historic landscape consultant: Debois Landscape Survey Group
Archaeologist: Kirkdale Archaeology
Brief
Liz Lake Associates formed part of the team which was invited to compile a planning application for a new country house in this sensitive Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Approach
Working with the historic landscape advisors and archaeologists, Liz Lake Associates was able to show that the surrounding area was a neglected park and garden. We argued that restoring the house would re-establish the meaning of the designed landscape and create a new focal point.
Outcome
Planning permission was granted. Under the planning policy in PPG7, this house is one of only a handful of grand new houses to achieve planning permission without going to appeal. Our work for this project, carried out with Aukett Fitzroy Robinson, was exhibited at the Royal Institute of British Architects.
