Ecological Surveys

Driven by scientific research, heightened public awareness and a raft of European legislation, the need to protect, maintain or create habitats essential for nature conservation has come to the fore over recent years.

When looking at proposed new developments, we often find that valuable wildlife habitats have become established on greenfield and brownfield sites where there has been limited human activity. These can have significant financial and programme implications for a project.

Working with government bodies, ecologists, local wildlife groups and other specialists, LiZLaKe can offer a full and detailed service from initial ecological site assessments to Natural England Habitat Surveys. We can also produce surveys for protected species such as bats, badgers and great-crested newts. Having collated this information, we can advise on current legislation and liaise with government departments, planning authorities and wildlife groups. In addition, we offer advice on site design and possible mitigation measures and draw up long-term management plans. This complicated, but essential, process can save the costly mistakes of contravening wide-ranging environmental laws and avoids the need for redesign.
